The Spotted Dog
We recently had the total pleasure of doing a shoot at The Spotted Dog in Flamstead. Re-vamped and re-opened this unassuming pub is changing perceptions of what a village pub can offer; to regulars and occasional visitors alike.
Step inside this historic building which dates back the 1700s and you are soon aware of its independence, originality, and charm.
As well as being formally backed by a cohort of locals, The Spotted Dog is co-owned by acclaimed chef Mark Jarvis of Michelin starred restaurants, Lords of the Manor, Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons (under Raymond Blanc) and Texture.
Now with his own venture ‘Anglo’ in Farringdon, this is Mark’s first project outside of London which he has entrusted to the care of head chef Murry Lane - who trained under Mark at Blueprint Café London and the Bingham Hotel Richmond.
Together they have created a food offering and ambiance which is attracting diners from all over Hertfordshire and keeping Flamstead locals happy.
With a focus on modern British and seasonal food, The Spotted Dog has a fresh approach providing small plates, casual lunches and fine dining. Here, there is respect and acknowledgment that people want and deserve exceptional food and value for money, in a casual and relaxed environment.
Their marketing challenge is maintaining quality and consistent communication about what it is they are offering and what one can expect on their growing social channels. With word of mouth spreading – particularly around the outstanding seasonal five course set menu – their Instagram feed needs to meet the culinary expectations of their curious new clientele without alienating regulars.
They wanted to communicate that this is a pub where you can pop in with your dog at 9am for coffee; grab a reworked classic at lunchtime; enjoy an Aperol Spritz in the sunny courtyard of an afternoon and come back at 7pm for the main foodie event!
The result is a beautiful gallery of images and suggested posts which provide narrative, detail and context around their fresh approach to ‘pub grub’ whilst alluding to the unique setting and atmosphere.
